The first MHRUK Scholars social!
Updated: Nov 21
Every year, after our annual Scholars’ Day, the Scholars have said that they would like to meet up informally between times. Alexandra Schmidt (2019 PhD Scholar at Sussex University) has sent us this note and a picture of some of the Scholars at their recent informal get-together.
After months, perhaps even years, of contemplating, attempting to but not quite managing to organise a social event for the scholars, we have finally made it happen and met for a lovely Sunday roast in London earlier this month.
It was so nice to meet everyone in person and to be able to share our experiences, worries and successes (congratulations again on submitting your thesis, Taryn!) and to just generally get to know each other a bit better. Whilst talking, we realised that there were many different areas in our work that overlap where we could support one another and share ideas – from PhD related things to associated teaching or even future career plans.
We all hope that this was the first of many such events and are looking forward to meeting many more scholars next time. If there’s anyone who hasn’t joined our WhatsApp group yet and would like to be included, please get in touch with Ali via email: as2085@sussex.ac.uk
