Thanet Male Voice Choir

Thank you so much to the Thanet Male Voice Choir which has performed two concerts to raise funds for Mental Health Research UK.  The most recent raised £1000 and the previous one over £4000. The funds are raised in memory of Brenda Witton, whose husband John has a long association with the Choir and his grandson, Finbar Duffy, has also raised funds for us through his JustGiving page  https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/finbar-duffy. Brenda suffered from a relentless and drug-resistant form of psychosis and depression.  As Finbar says: “We believe that it would have been Brenda’s wish that no other individual had to go through what she did and that no more loved ones experience what our family did.” We hope that, through the research that MHRUK is funding, we shall bring that wish closer to fruition.

"Emma and friends" fundraiser for Mental Health Research UK

Adam.jpg

Myself and some of my amazing friends are taking on the national 3 peaks challenge in memory of my brother, Adam.

Adam had a zest for life, enjoying new experiences and challenges. He struggled with mental ill health for many years before sadly his life came to an end in 2014. I will always remember his infectious smile, his incredible hugs and warm, compassionate nature. He was a wonderful big brother. This walk is to raise funds for an amazing charity to continue work to help and support others who struggle and to keep Adam's memory alive. I miss him every single day.

Peter Mukono's London Marathon

On my third London Marathon 2023, l am raising funds for Mental Health Research UK for the second year. As professional and business owner of Kcare Nursing Agency, we dedicate ourselves in supporting people with mental health so that they can have better lives. In November 2022, l met Professor Clair Chilvers, Co – founding Trustee for Mental Health Research UK and l was inspired with their relentless quest into research for causes and cures for mental illnesses. Your work gives hope to the helpless and l will run for a good cause.

One Step at a Time: A Marathon for Mental Health

I am writing to you today with a heavy heart. Mental health is an issue that touches us all in one way or another, whether it be ourselves, our loved ones, or our friends. I, like so many, have personally experienced the struggles that mental health issues can bring and the importance of finding effective treatments. That is why I am so passionate about supporting Mental Health Research UK, an organisation dedicated to financing the research and development of new mental health treatments through the sponsorship of PhD students. These dedicated individuals are tirelessly working to discover and implement innovative ways to improve the lives of those suffering from mental health issues.

It was an honour to run for Mental Health Research UK in this year’s Great North Run as it is a charity close to my heart and they do amazing work in the fight against mental illness.

The atmosphere for this 40th Anniversary half marathon was amazing as always and despite the difficult course due to changing the route for Covid reasons, the crowds lining the streets of Newcastle City Centre kept us going on the mostly uphill final mile.
