About Blooming Monday

Blooming Monday is our awareness raising campaign which we hold each year on 'Blue Monday' - the 3rd Monday in January - supposedly the most depressing day of the year. We ask people, especially in their workplaces, to dress in bright clothes that day, even if it is just a bright tie or scarf.
It is meant to be a bit of fun and an opportunity to get people talking about mental health issues. It isn't primarily a fundraising event though some of our supporters are happy to have a bucket collection for Mental Health Research UK on the day which is always most welcome!

For more information about the latest campaign click the link at the top of this page.

We still need some more volunteers. If you would like to help with the campaign (no experience or travel required; just internet access) please drop us an email. Thank you!

"Blooming Monday is an opportunity for all of us who are concerned about issues surrounding mental health to show that we care, and are hugely enthusiastic about drawing attention to how depression and mental illness can blight people's lives and those of their families. It's not about how colourful a wardrobe we have, but it's to show that on what is arguably one of the bluest of days when people can suffer badly from depression after the holiday period we will dress brightly to say we care - we blooming well will"

"The campaign has been running for over 2 years. We have a number of practices now donating £10 per month, contributions from companies, and guests of reunions - as well as many challenges undertaken. With over £35,000 raised, we need to keep up momentum in involving our profession to help reduce these tragic losses."

Tom Palmer MD(Res) Award

We are pleased to announce the
Tom Palmer MD(Res) at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN) at King's College, London. Mental Health Research UK wishes to support young doctors with an interest in mental health research by offering Scholarships for this programme because we need to encourage more people to develop careers within academic psychiatry. We are keen to provide a supportive community within Mental Health Research UK for all our scholars, which this award holder will join. This will help doctors thrive in their studies and ensure progress is made towards improving the lives of people with mental health problems, through scientific advances.
